NOAA says prepare for Hotter Summer

NOAA predicts that much of California will experience higher-than-normal temperatures this summer. For June through August, there's a 50 to 60 percent chance of warmer weather in northern and eastern California, and a 40 to 50 percent chance along the southern coast. Summer solstice starts on June 20th, marking the first day of summer.

Chico Council Approves Ice Rink Contract

The Chico City Council has approved a three-year contract with 'The Holidays on Ice' for the operation of the annual downtown ice skating rink. The operating costs will be taken from the City General Fund City officials have indicated to transition complete operation of the project to CARD, citing the district's demonstrated success during the past two skating seasons.

PGE Undergrounding Power Lines in Paradise

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has started night work on Tuesday, May 27 to underground power lines along Skyway in Paradise. Portions of the project will take place at night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Saturday mornings and will include a road closure of Skyway. expect some detours and traffic controls as the work continues'. The project is expected to last until December, weather permitting.

Memorial Day Events Chico Cemetery

Memorial Day at 10:00am as we remember and honor our fallen service members and veterans. We will start with a flyover at Chico Cemetery followed by a full presentation with laying of the wreathes, a live band, speeches and presentation of the colors. We will follow up with a shorter but just as important service at Glen Oaks Memorial Park at 2:00pm with speeches, bag pipers, snow cone truck, and playing of taps. Both events are Free to the public

PV High School Parents Reports Daughter Attacked on Campus

Chico Police are investigating an incident at Pleasant Valley High School after a MOther says her daughter was punched numerous times on Friday afternoon on campus. The Mother of the student claims her daughter was brutally attacked while walking to the office. She said a girl attacked and then punched her daughter 33 times . Offcials at teh school say they are looking into the incident, the CUSD released a statment saying they were aware of an incident on campus and are looking into it. There has been nothing released on the alleged attacker or what may have initiated the attack.

Butte County Sheriff Recaptures escaped Inmate

The Butte County Sherrifs Office reports the inmate who escaped custody yesterday while being checked at Oroville Hospital following his arrest was found . The nuspect, Gavin Gonzales was arrested following a pursuit on Sunday night as he tried to evade arrest on his motorcycle. Follwing the arrest he was taken to Oroville Hpsital to be medically checked, during that time he was able to escape by jumping out a window. after a short search Gonzales was found around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Ophir Road and Lincoln Boulevard in Oroville.

Butte Co Health issues warning to Parents

The Butte County Health Department has issued a warning to parents over continued outbreaks of the Norovirus at the Shady Creek Camp in Nevada City. Local 5th and 6th graders attend the multi-day camp from schools all over the area. Recently kids have returned home with severe cases of the norovirus. The health department says lab testing shows 36 local children tested positive for the norovirus with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. Three separate outbreaks at the camp have affected local elementary schools from Butte County. Shady Creek says they regularly cleaning but it's not known if they are bringing in professional cleaning companies.

Red Bluff Councilor Under Criminal Investigation

The Red Bluff City Council has decided to refer a criminal investigation involving one of its members, Councilor Cody Strock, to the Tehama County District Attorney's Office. This following a meeting Tuesday night after city staff presented several allegations against Strock, made by Dolores Lucero and the non-profit organization 'One Seed at a Time.' The accusations involve Strock allegedly misusing city letterhead in communications with outside organizations for personal gain. The council voted to refer the criminal allegations to the Tehama County DA and plans to discuss potential actions against Strock in a future meeting.

CHAT New Affordable Housing

Chico Housing Action Team is launching a new housing project aimed at providing affordable homes for disabled individuals in the community. Builders Village, a housing complex specifically designed for people with disabilities, will break ground at 3078 Highway 32 in Chico. According to CHAT, the project will feature 61 units on 5 acres of donated land. The complex will include studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, all fully accessible for people with disabilities and those with limited mobility. The project is funded by a $16.5 million grant from the state of California and additional contributions from the Chico community.

BCSO Officer Involved Shooting

A woman is dead after an officer-involved shooting with the Butte County Sheriff's Office on Thursday afternoon. Deputies were dispatched to the the 11000 block of Butte Creek Island Road around 2:39 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a female.Upon arrival at the scene, deputies observed the woman armed with a rifle. The woman, aged 48, allegedly pointed the rifle at the responding deputies and demanded that they shoot her. A deputy fired one shot at the female from his service rifle, striking the woman. he Butte County Officer Involved Shooting Protocol Team, including the District Attorney's Office, is actively investigating the incident.

Chico Downtown Revitalization Community Meeting

The City of Chico invites the community to a Workshop as part of the Downtown Chico Revitalization Project initiative. The workshop will take place on Monday, May 12th at 6:00 PM at the City Council Chambers, located at 421 Main Street,

Gridley Man Faces Embezzling Charges

Gridley Police arrested a man on Monday that they say embezzled more than $25,000 from a local group. According to the Gridley Police Department, 67-year-old Kenneth McIntyre was the treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Saint Mary's Council. Authorities say that McIntyre allegedly wrote unauthorized checks to himself over a 22-month period, from March 2023 to January 2025. The total amount that had been embezzled exceeded $25,000. McIntyre faces felony embezzlement and other fraud-related charges.

Missing Baby recovered In Trinity River

Search efforts in Trinity County concluded with the discovery of missing infant Oliver Cox in the Trinity River. Authorities say that Oliver went missing on May 1 after the vehicle he was traveling in went of Highway 299 and crashed into the Trinity River. According to Trinity County Search and Rescue, an out-of-area diver who was providing assistance in the search efforts located Oliver's body submerged in the river. Authorities say that Oliver's family has been notified of the discovery of the body.
