Butte Co Man to Face Murder Charge

Butte County DA Mike Ramsey says that a Forbestown man will be held to face murder charges following a preliminary hearing that was done in the Butte County Superior Court about the murder of his grandmother in January 2024. Kenneth Lewis called the Butte County Sheriff office in January to report his grandmother was dead..he shared a home with her in Forbsetown. Lewis admitted to to law enforcemnet that he killed 80 yr old Violet MacGregor. He will back in Court in July to set a jury trial date.

FIRE Update

Cal Fire reporting the APACHE FIRE is now 691 acres and 40% contained.  Most of the Evacuation Orders have been lifted as homeowners have been allowed back in to their homes.  

Gov Newsome leaked Emails

Governor Gavin Newsom reportedly is refusing to negotiate new crime bills unless his demand is met. CBS News California reports that a leaked email it obtained indicates Newsom won't come to the table unless DAs and other supporters of an amendment to Proposition 47 drop the measure from the November ballot. Prop 47 was approved by voters in 2014. It reduced punishments for drug possession and thefts valued at less than 950 dollars. The proposed Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act would reverse much of Prop 47's guidance. It has broad support from law enforcement and major retailers like Walmart and Target.

Camp Fire Non Profit Named Top for 2024

Senator Brian Dahle has announced the Camp Fire Collaborative in Paradise as the 2024 Non-profit of the Year for Senate District One. The Camp Fire Collaborative, established in the aftermath of the 2018 Camp Fire, is dedicated to partnering with various organizations and case managers to meet the needs of survivors as they endeavor to rebuild and recover. Offcials say they have assisted 2000 families return home. Whether that's here in Paradise, or it's in Butte County, or it's someplace else.

Chico Council Defeats Rent Control Mobile Homes

The Chico City Council voted 4-2 Tuesday night against a proposed rent stabilization on mobile home parks. The issues came after seniors from Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Estates came to the council asking for help after they said their rent was increasing significantly. Council Rules dictate the issue can not be reviewed for 1 year.

Chico Reworks Measure H for Nov Election

The CIty of Chico will once again push the 1 cent sales tax measure to voters in NOvember as the State of California pushes a Measure that would restrict Local Goverment from passing tax intiatives.  Measure H was passed in November but did not include whats known as a "Sunset Clause".  Chico Councilman Tom VanOverbeck says the COuncil will rewrite the Measure to present to Voters to meet the state requirement.  

PGE Posts New Online Wildfire Tool

A Small Crop Dusting Plane crashed just off the runway at the Richvale Airport Tuesday .. Investigatiors say that the FAA will be on the scene to investigate the Crash. Cal FIre Units were on scene to clean up fuel and materials that spilled from the plane.. Authorities say the pilot was killed suffering major injuries..
