Bull & Gelding Sale Hits Record Sales

The 84th annual Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale wrapped up Saturday night, setting historic sales records. Officials say that the event saw impressive numbers across all sales, with the bull sale setting a new record. A total of 282 bulls were sold for a record $2.2 million

Honey Run Covered Bridge Rebuild Complete

After years of planning and rebuilding, the Iconic Honey Run Covered Bridge is now complete. Crews finished the final work this past Friday. Officials with the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association say there is still work being done to improve the parking lot and other areas near the bridge to make it more accessible to the public ...There is no exact date for the Official reopening but it will be sometime in the Spring .

Upper Park Tree Removal begins This Week

Recovery efforts will continue in areas of Upper Bidwell Park impacted by the Park Fire. The Fire left many burned trees and associated hazards. The City of Chico will be removing fire-damaged trees that are unlikely to recover from the fire. Removal operations will begin on Wednesday and continue through Friday February 7. A total of 125 trees will be removed along the Ten-Mile House Road. Officals remind that the Road remains closed to the public.

State Insurance Updates on Policies

The California Department of Insurance recently announced a one year moratorium on insurers cancelling or not renewing policies. The estimated insurance cost of the wildfires is at 30 billion dollars and counting, which puts insurance companies in a difficult position and homeowners will foot the bill. Attorney and business expert Parag Amin [[ Per-og Ah-meen ]] says homeowners will start paying for it relatively soon. He believes a ten percent increase at a minimum, but also believes it could be 20, 30 or even 40 percent depending on the size of insurance company and the number of policy holders effected by the wildfires. He adds that if the premium hikes don't offset the cost for insurers, they could once again start leaving the state.

State Parks Meets w Bidwell Mansion Assoc

California State Parks gave an update Saturday on where things stand with the Bidwell Mansion. State Parks Officials say they are still in the initial recovery stage. Matt Tegue , the State Parks Rep says that they will not be able to get back on site unfitl mid February as per the Butte County DA's Office. Teague says that they be meeting and planning thru the recovery process, saying it could take up to a year to complete. Teague said there is no timeline established yet.

Gallagher Defends Trumps Water Directive

Republican Assemblyman James Gallagher says Northern California water stake holders should not be concerned about recent comments by President Trump.... Gallagher says Trump isn't calling for water to be sent to Southern California that is vital for the agricultural interests in the north.... Gallagher says Trump is talking about diverting excess flood waters and diverting that to where it is needed. But, the Bureau of Reclamation reported in December that under President Trump's plan less water would be diverted to Southern California. Also, farming interests Karla Nemeth with DWR says the Trump plan would harm Central Valley farms and would do nothing to improve water supplies in the Southern California basin

Chico Police arrest 2 on Burglary Charges

The Chico Police Department arrested two people Thursday in connection to multiple residential burglaries that took place in November and December Authorities said the burglaries resulted in the theft of multiple firearms and other property. Following the issuance of search warrants, police gathered evidence linking two suspects to the crimes. 1 suspect was found and stopped in a traffic stop, the other was found at a residence where after an hour long standoff he was taken into custody.. Police recovered guns and several stolen items during the operation. The investigation remains ongoing.

Newsome Signs Relief Aid for LA

Billions of dollars are headed to Southern California to help those devastated by the wildfires. Governor Newsom on Thursday signed a relief package that earmarks two-point-five-billion dollars in wildfire aid. The legislation was previously approved by state lawmakers with bipartisan support. The package of bills also includes additional funding to address the rebuilding of schools and homes.

Chico asks for input on HUD survey

Chico City officials are looking for your input on a new survey thru the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development The input guides the Chico City officials in creating budgets for two critical programs: that support affordable housing, public services, and neighborhood revitalization in underserved communities. City Officials say The feedback will play a pivotal role in shaping the priorities and strategies for the City's use of HUD funding through 2029. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, January 31, 2025.

Paradise man Arrested in Death of Baby

A Paradise father has been arrested on charges of manslaughter and child abuse after his 5-month-old baby died from being accidentally smothered, January 19, 2025, Paradise police officers, CAL FIRE, and Butte EMS responded to a call in the 800 block of Violet Way about a 5-month-old baby who was not breathing. Upon arrival at the scene, officers began life-saving measures, and Cal Fire and Butte EMS personnel took over medical care. Despite their efforts, the baby was pronounced deceased at the scene. it was determined that the baby's father, 25-year-old Daniel Eastman of Paradise, was intoxicated and fell asleep on the baby, which led to the infant's death

CalTrans Next Phase 20th St Bridge Chico

City of Chico says that work on the 20th st bike/pedistrian bridge will begin tonight and work will continue in the overnight hours thru February. Cal trans Offcials say you can Expect closures of the North and Southbound off ramps on Hiway 99 at 20th st. each night from 10p thru 7am daily Local street detours will be provided during the full closure hours to minimize disruptions. Night closures may continue after February to allow the contractor to install additional arichitectural lights safely and for the placement of the bridge deck concrete. The project is expected to be fully completed by the Fall .

Body Recovered at Aferbay DNA testing Being done

The Butte County Sheriff's Office has recovered a second body in the search for the brothers who went missing while duck hunting last month. Deputies located the body of 19-year-old Andruw Cornett last Tuesday. The second body, believed to be the younger brother 17-year-old Wesley , was found Sunday morning in the Thermalito Afterbay . Officials are working to confirm identity through DNA

Bird Flu detected in Butte County

The Butte County Department of Public Health (BCPH) has received notification from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) of a bird flu (H5N1) infection in a non-commercial backyard poultry flock in Butte County. BCPH wants poultry owners to be aware of the potential for H5N1 exposure, know the signs of infected poultry, and take steps to prevent exposure to themselves and others. While the general public's health risk is low, people who work with birds, poultry, or cows or have recreational exposure to them are at higher risk. To date, there have been no reported human H5N1 bird flu cases among Butte County residents.

Chico Man Arrested Bidwell Mansion Fire

California State Parks, in collaboration with multiple agencies, has arrested a suspect in connection with the December 11 fire that caused extensive damage to Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park. On January 2, Kevin Carlson, of Chico, was taken into custody on felony arson charges. Carlson was booked into the Butte County Jail on multiple charges, including arson. The fire, which occurred in the early hours of December 11, severely damaged the historic mansion. Authorities will hold a Press Conference on Monday January 6 to provide more details .

Body Recovered Thermilito Afterbay

The Butte County Sheriff's Office says it has recovered a body from the Thermalito Afterbay. Tuesday Afternoon, officials say the body was spotted by a pilot working with the Sheriff's office ..the identity of the victim has not been confirmed, the search for the two missing teenagers, Wesley Cornett, 17, and Andruw Cornett, 19, continues

New Law protects Kids on Social Media

Social media companies are not allowed to send addictive feeds to minors in California. A new law went into effect Wednesday after a judge denied a legal challenge from NetChoice. In November, NetChoice members like Meta, Google, and X requested an injunction blocking the law, saying it violated their First Amendment rights.

FBi says New Orleans Suspect Acted Alone

The FBI now says the New Orleans truck attacker acted alone in an "act of terrorism" when he drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year's revelers early Wednesday, killing 15 people. The driver had posted videos on social media hours before the carnage saying he was inspired by the Islamic State group and expressing a desire to kill, President Joe Biden said. The FBI identified the driver as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar.
