Gov Newsome signs New Fertility Law

Governor Newsom signed a bill Sunday that requires insurance companies cover fertility treatments, including IVF. He says this is a "proud reproductive freedom state" expanding access as Republicans continue try and block it. The law begins in 2026. Until then, the cost of in vitro fertilization here is reported to average 24-thousand dollars out of pocket.

New Security To Start at Chico Council Chambers

If you normally attend Chico Council meetings...get ready for a change as you enter the building . Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge said the new security measures are for anyone entering the building. The updated process includes thorough bag checks and requires individuals to walk through a security detector. Chico City Mayor Andrew Coolidge says in response to recent national acts of violence and concerns raised by security specialists regarding vulnerabilities in the chambers, the city has been prompted to take proactive measures.

DWR to inspect Oroville Dam Spillway

Offcials with the Dept of Water Resources says that this week . A team comprising engineers and geologists will conduct a thorough inspection of the concrete spillway chute at teh Oroville Dam to ascertain its condition following the powerful water releases during the previous winter.

PG&E Donates to North state Food Banks

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has generously donated a total of $1.3 million to support various food banks across the state. Among these donations, $150,300 has been specifically allocated to benefit individuals and families in the North state region. The donation will help supply approximately 2.6 million meals to individuals and families who are experiencing food insecurity.

Chico State Gets Grant to Launch new Teacher Program

Chico State's School of Education was awarded an $8.5 million grant to establish a new residency program. The Belong, Engage, Support, Transform Teachers Residency Program, also known as the BEST program, aims to place the next generation of teachers in rural elementary schools in our area. The U.S. Department of Education awarded Chico State the grant to develop the BEST program. Each student enrolled in the program will receive a living stipend of about $50,000 per year while in their year-long residency in a high-need school. That includes districts like Palermo, Thermalito, Los Molinos and Corning.

Paradise Shooting Suspect released

An Oroville man accused of shooting and killing a Magalia man was released from custody today as the Paradise Police Department and Butte County District Attorney continue their investigation into the circumstances of the shooting. Kindall Woodward was arrested in the early morning hours of September 22 for shooting and killing Tyler Simmons. Butte Co DA Mike Ramsey they are investigating claims of self defense.

Judge orders Man to Surrender Boat after Drowning Deer

— A Gridley man appeared in Butte County Superior Court and pleaded no-contest to using his boat to drown a deer in the Sacramento River, The judge ordered him to forfeit his custom-built fishing boat, with an estimated value of $80,000, along with a trailer. According to Officials , Greg Dudley used the boat to drown the Deer on the River near Gridley Last year .. He then lied to Game wardens saying he shot the deer with an arrow while hunting . Dudley was sentenced to one year of probation and will not be allowed to hunt during that time.

Community Input wanted for new CUSD Superintendent

The Search is on for a New Superintendent for the Chico Unified School District as Kelly Staley announced that she will be retiring at the end of this School Year. The Chico Unified Board of Education will be holding Community Meetings in conjunction with the Butte Co Office of Education to get the publics input on the New Superintendent. Tonights Meeting will start at 6 at Marigold School in Chico. with another Scheduled for Wednesday at Marsh Junior High at 6p

Paradise PD Arrest Shooting suspect

Paradise police have arrested a suspect following the shooting death of a 21 yr old Magalia resident. The incident happend around 2am Ssturday Morning, Police were called to the area of Pentz Road and Drayer Drive in Paradise. Witnesses told officers the shooting occured following an argument between the 2 parties. The Shooter faces murder charges

Help Chico High Student Injured after hit by Car

The Chico High School student INJURED AFTER BEING HIT BY A CAR LAST WEEK NEAR CAMPUS woke up from a coma, campus. Family members say that he was able to walk for a little bit after awakening from the coma. Ram Dillannes was hit by a car while crossing the Esplanade near Chico high School last week. He is currently at UC Davis for treatment of his injuries HIs family has set up a Go Fund Me campaign to help with his medical expenses . click to donate

State AG sends Letter to Tech leaders on Election Safety

The state attorney general is taking action to protect November's election. Rob Bonta reminded online giants that California's laws ban voter intimidation, and warned them not intentionally push out false information on polling locations or mislead media about a candidate. He sent that letter to top executives at companies like Meta, Microsoft, X and YouTube. He also urged them to train experts to catch voter deception on their sites.

Chico High Student Hit by Car suffers major injuries

Chico Police Responded Wednesday afternoon to the area near Chico High School for a Pedestrian v Vehicle accident that injured a 17 yr old student. Police said that the driver of the car was a 23-year-old Chico State student. The Driver remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police said that the student was crossing the Esplanade in a marked crosswalk when he was hit suffering major injuries. Neither drugs nor alcohol played a factor in this crash. The investigation is ongoing

Butte Co gets Approval for Cal OES Fire Debris Program

Butte County announced that they received formal approval from the Governor's Office of Emergency Services for a private property debris removal program for properties affected by the Park Fire. The county said that the program will provide debris removal to eligible properties at no cost to the residents. The state and the county will work to get the debris removal program up and running.

Yuba Sutter Crash Driver Charged DUI Man Slaughter

One person died, and three others were hospitalized, after a drunk driver drove into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into another driver on Highway 70 Monday morning. 19-year-old Alannah Eastern of Elk Grove has been arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing injury, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol Yuba-Sutter office. CHP said the crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, when Eastern drove onto Hwy 70 northbound on the southbound McGowan Parkway offramp and into oncoming traffic. They said Eastern's sedan crashed head on into an SUV driving south on Hwy 70.

Grand Jury Report Chico Homeless Crisis

The city of Chico is preparing its response to the Butte County grand jury report that recommends changes in how the city handles the homeless crisis. In its report, the grand jury said the city of Chico precipitated the Warren lawsuit when the unhoused were relocated without adequate shelter, but the city says it disagrees with that finding because the basis for the Warren lawsuit was resoundingly rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court. The grand jury says the city of Chico is responsible for allowing the appalling conditions at the alternative site due to neglect. The Report made several recommendations, including developing an internal committee to interface with the unhoused population. This will be discussed at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
