A Butte County Grand Jury report released last week called conditions at the city's alternate site on Eaton and Cohasset "appalling," adding that the city is responsible for the situation there due to neglect. The city, which recently announced plans to pursue the closure of the alternate site at the end of the year, has been given 90 days to respond

TRUMP Addresses Shooting incident

Former President Trump issued a statement on the shooting incident at his rally in Pennsylvania on Truth Social. "I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

Allstate asks for Rate Increase

One of the state's largest insurers is asking to raise rates by an average of 34-percent. Allstate already hiked prices three times over the past five years. The company says it's simply costing more to help residents recover from accidents and disasters. The request is larger than the 30-percent increase State Farm is pushing for. If approved, it would affect 350-thousand customers.

Calif no longer Drought Free

The state is no longer drought-free. The latest map shows major changes for the first time in nine months. Twenty-percent of California is now abnormally dry, while a section of Siskiyou County is at the moderate drought level. This is due to record-breaking heatwaves and a lack of significant rainfall over the past eight weeks. Nearly all reservoirs remain full but the return of drought conditions raises the risk of even more wildfires.

Reports from the camp say an independent test of the water supply found bacteria, including E. coli and Shigella. City offcials believe the person who tested the sample may have had the seample from the unclean spigot and not the water . Authorities with Cal Water say the water is safe and clean. Public Works staff is working with lab partners to take a sample of the water from the spigot at the site.

SCOTUS Homeless Camping

The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Grants Pass in a case that will have wide-ranging impacts on local communities and how they handle homelessness on their streets...... The ruling will allow Grants Pass, Oregon to enforce their anti-camping ordinances in public spaces....meaning they can clear the homeless and transients from their streets and parks. Hundreds of local municipalities were awaiting the ruling as it affects how they can implement their own ordinances. The City of Chico was hoping for this ruling but City Manager Mark Sorenson says Chico must still adhere to a decision handed down by the federal courts last year..... Sorenson does the High Court's ruling means they can go back to federal court and ask for modifications on the Warren Settlement
